A Better Understanding of Ourselves

7 Nov

Do you remember this from Beautiful Things in Your Life?

“Negative emotions do serve an important function though. They point us towards something we can’t deal with or don’t understand…something that needs to be processed in order to be released. I have a theory about strong negative emotions that may help that processing…”

Do you feel an array of negative emotions (anger, blame, frustration… actually, anything that feels undesirable to you) when you think of a particular person who impacts your life?  Are you tired of feeling that way? What if you could resolve it without changing…or even confronting…the other person?

First, you may want to read How to Find the Root of Anything That’s Bothering You. This may help you hear the next part with an open mind.

Any strong emotion, positive or negative, you feel toward another is really about YOU.

Sigmund Freud called it projection. Even Jesus refers to projection in Matthew 7:3-5 when discussing the “speck in your brother’s eye” versus the “plank in your own eye.”

You may have noticed I am not one to say ALWAYS or NEVER. This is an exception.

Any strong emotion, positive or negative, you feel toward another is ALWAYS about YOU.

Before you decide to disagree, just be with it for a little while. If you feel perplexed, let that be okay.

A better understanding of yourself is just ahead.

Love your post. I am reading Dark Side of The Light Chaser by Debbie Ford. It talks about this same thing and it is based on Carl Jung teachings. Thanks for sharing 😀
